Time to Enroll!

***NEW FOR 2009-2010***  We are asking everyone to enroll online through https://california.4honline.com for the 2009-2010 program year.  The steps should be easy to understand, but this will be our first year enrolling online, so we are sure there will be a few bumps along the way.

Steps to enroll:
1.     Parent/Guardian or Adult Volunteers should go to https://california.4honline.com
2.     If you are new to 4-H, create a “family” account.  Click “I need to setup a profile” and enter your information.  If you are re-enrolling, press “I forgot my password”.  You will need to know what email address you entered on your enrollment forms from the previous year.  If you have a problem, call the 4-H Office.
3.     In the Member List screen, you may add new youth and adults or update information for existing youth and adults.  Enter/update information on the three screens to successfully enroll in 4-H.

The enrollment and Waiver of Liability can be entered online, but club leaders will still need the Medical Release and Health History form from youth and adults.  And adult volunteers will still need to complete and return the Volunteer Confidential Self Disclosure form to the 4-H Office.

State and county 4-H insurance fees are $15 for each member and $6 for each leader.  Each club may collect additional fees to cover local costs and/or the club may have funds to assist low income or additional family members – so be sure to ask at your local club.  These fees will be collected by your club leaders, not the 4-H Office or online.

With the start of school, 4-H clubs reorganize for the New Year. We welcome returning and new members, leaders and parents to the Tehama County 4-H Program. We encourage each 4-H member to invite a friend to join 4-H. See the Club Directory

Each club is unique and offers projects and activities of interest to its youth based upon the resources of their community and parents. The club is only as strong as its members and leaders. Enroll today and become active; learning together and helping each other. Please note the following county and state policies:

1. ALL 4-HER'S MUST BE ENROLLED OR BE RE-ENROLLED BY THE NOVEMBER CLUB MEETING, to be eligible for current 4-H year completion and to exhibit at the Tehama District Fair. Enrollment forms and all fees must be paid by the November club meeting at club level to be officially enrolled.
2. All youth, ages 5 years old or in kindergarten through 18 years of age as of January 1st of the program year, are eligible to become 4-H participants. Levels of membership are an age based system with each level defined as follows:
    • PRIMARY: Must be 5 years old or in kindergarten as of January 1 of the program year.
    • JUNIOR, INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR: Must be 9 years old or in 4th grade by January 1 of the program year.
    • HOME SCHOOLED CHILDREN: The age criteria only will apply.

(Some 4-H projects, events and activities will have limitations based upon the age/school grade of the member, i.e. clubs and/or project groups may designate age/grade restrictions.)

3. Youth, 5 years old and/or in kindergarten through 3rd grade, are not eligible to enroll in any project that requires large animal ownership, handling, or exhibiting. These restrictions are placed because of the age appropriateness and safety concerns of such activities. Thos project areas primary members are not eligible to enroll in are- beef, dairy, sheep, dairy goats, swine and horse.

All primary 4-H projects are encouraged to follow the curriculum available for 5 years old and/or Kindergarten through 3rd grades at the 4-H Office. Eligible animal projects for primary members are dogs, rabbits, rats, cats, poultry, cavies, mice, embryology, entomology, marine science, pygmy goats, and therapeutic animal projects.

4. All 4-H Leaders and 4-Her's must sign a waiver or Liability, assumption of risk, and indemnity agreement every year.
5. Safety is an important factor in all project areas, events and activities. Minimum adult supervision is two adults at all 4-H functions.
6. All 4-H volunteers must complete an application form, be fingerprinted and must also attend an orientation meeting to be certified as an agent of the University of California. Only certified 4-H volunteer leaders are covered under the UC liability insurance. Therefore, all individuals providing 4-H instruction, transportation and/or chaperoning must be 18 years of age and certified as a 4-H volunteer leader. When providing transportation, volunteers must carry their own automobile insurance and all passengers must have their own seat belt.
